Kafni Glacier

Panchchuli Glacier is a Himalayan glacier, situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. It is located in the easternmost part of Kumaun. It is in the west and east of five peaks of Panchchuli on the Johar Valley and Darma valley. Uttari Balati glacier is situated north to it.Panchachuli group of glaciers includes:

The Kafni glacier is in the Kumaon Himalayas in Uttarakhand. It is the source of the Kafni river, a tributary of the Pindar river which later joins the Ganges. The trek starts at Loharket, above the small mountain town of Bageshwar. From Loharkhet you climb up to Dhakuri pass from where you start to get a view of the magnificent Himalayan peaks including Nanda Khat and Maiktoli. You then descend into the Pindar river basin and walk along the greenish-blue waters with Nanda Devi East in your sights until you reach the point where the Kafni river merges into the Pindar. From here you follow the Kafni river, continuing northward and rounding the bend of the valley which makes a wide left turn. Your path is over the river's boulder-strewn banks, through forests on the mountainside, and across expansive mountain meadows, hiking higher and higher towards the Kafni glacier.

Day 01: Kathgodam – Bageshwar
Driving – 210kms
After having breakfast, drive from Kathgodam to Bageshwar via Almora. Explore the town of Bageshwar and visit the old Bagnath temple at the confluence of Saryu and Gomti River. Buy all necessary things from the market of Bageshwar.

Day 02: Bageshwar –Loharkhet -Khati (2,210mts)
Trekking – 10kms
Khati is the biggest village that you will come across on the trek to Pindari Glacier. The trail passes through thick forest of Rhododendrons. It is the last village en route Pindari and Kafni glacier.You can charge your batteries by paying to run the generator. KMVN rest house is situated 500mts ahead of Khati village. Khati is situated on the banks of Pindar River. It is believed that the hospitable villagers are descendents of the race who provided pandavas with shelter. Overnight in Khati.

Day 03: Khati – Dwali ( 2,575)
Trekking – 11kms
Level – Easy
Start after having a good breakfast at Khati. Today's trek goes along with Pindar River with two wooden bridges to cross. You can have tea and maggi at Himalayan Hotel, a small dhabha en route. Overnight in Dwali.

Day 04: Dwali –Katiya
Trekking – 7 km
Level – Moderate
At Katiya, the tree line gives way to alpine pastures and shepherds can be seen guiding their large flock across grassy uplands.

Day 05: Katiya-Kafni Glacier(3,860mts) -Dawli
Trekking – 14kms
Level – Moderate
The Kafni Glacier is situated to the left of Pindar valley. The major Himalayan peaks visible from Kafni Glacier are Nanda Kot (6,806mts) and Nanda Bhanar (6,104mts). Bayaligar is situated 2kms before Kafni Glacier.. The region or Kafni Glacier has its own charm and allures with the solitude terrain it presents. Overnight in Kafni.

Day 06: Dwali – Khati - Dhakuri ( 2,680mts)
Trekking – 20 kms
Level – Easy
Trek back downwards to Khati and then to Dhakuri the same day. Carry back with you unforgettable memories and adventurous experience by giving your presence to mountains. Overnight in Dhakuri.

Day 07: Dhakuri –Loharkhet-Almora
Trekking – 125Kms
Trekking – 10kms
Level – Easy
